Tim Kinsella has an Irish accent, which is unique for someone who spent three decades in the US Navy.
Tim is an interesting dude because he is not your atypical Joe-Navy type of person. Not the caricature you see on an old John Wayne movie or a more modern Jerry Bruckheimer action film. He's got depth and breadth, appreciates the arts, and has a knack for tongue-in-cheek humor. We talk about all kinds of stuff: mindset, the importance of hobbies, being careful on what we let define us as people, his Irish heritage, self-education, humor, mental health, and leadership. He was in command when the tragic shooting happened onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola in December 2019, and he shares personal insight in this interview that he has never shared elsewhere.
He is now the Director of the Center for Leadership at the University of West Florida College of Business in Pensacola, Florida.
We recorded this in a golf course lobby over a couple of pints of Guinness.
(P.S. Here’s the poem he recited in the intro)
