Loose motifs for the month:
Better use of time: Recently I have been researching on building a more methodical and proactive approach to accomplishing a few meaningful (meaningful to me) things in my day. I am trying to be more disciplined at this. Apart from work, family, and gym, I want to make better use of the short extra hours. Some of my reading/watching is based on this. I was also doing this in Feb. It's an ever-changing dynamic. Life is always changing, both our inner and outer lives. Gotta stay flexibly rigid. Other books I've read in the past that come to mind on this topic are (Atomic Habits), (Deep Work), (Digital Minimalism), (The Power of Habit).
Drumming: Actively working on improving double kick drum methods as well as the moeller technique. I used Claude AI to help with building a double-kick drum practice routine and I also enrolled in a 30 day free trial of the JP Bouvet drum course (linked below, somewhere). Doing these while playing in a band, I am seeing slight improvements. Drums are a discipline. There is a physical, spiritual, and cognitive aspect to it. Inspired by all types of music. It's interesting to see the trend in what I am listening to. Since I want to improve on double kick (probably will do a post on my learning journey so far), there is way more metal, progressive, and djent, than I usually listen to. These guys are pros and this is the best way to learn. Listen, learn, do.
Graphic design: Creating visual art is relatively new venture for me. I have always been interested in it on some level, creating short films and scratching abstract sketches in forgotten notebooks. I am making posters for my current band so towards the end of the month I started watching tutorials on Photoshop and Gimp.
This log is sorta measuring, sorta recording. I felt like I squandered a lot of time consuming useless things and I wanted a way track it. It keeps me on track in a way, and I have found that since I have been doing this I have been more consistent at reading, drumming, and giving whatever it is I am doing my full attention.
When we create we draw from the sources from which we are inspired. If you want to make good things you have to consume good things. You will see the quality of what you produce increase when you increase the quality of what you allow into your mind.
Looking at it from a different angle: garbage in-garbage out.
Drumming, writing, and visual design are important to me. A film, an article, or even a dish can inspire to create a musical idea, a concept, a scene. Everything can be mixed with and inspired by something else. And what is ultimately produced is a taste. Your taste. Self education is just as important as being inspired by a film or music.
This is an experiment, so it may change and look different from month to month.
