Since this is my microscopic corner of the internet, I get to share stuff that I’ve found interesting. I might make a habit out of this. I have made a promise to myself to publish more on here. I also restarted my Twitter account where I do what people do on Twitter (except argue. I try not to do that).
Hopefully you’ll find something interesting here and take a look.
a newsletter:
Check out Erik Hoel. His is one of my favorite Substack’s. He’s a neuroscientist and a really great writer. His topics are both educational and entertaining, the best way to learn. He writes about AI, the future, people, and the mixture of art and science. He also has an artistic partnership with a visual artist named Alexander Naughton, who reads his essays and then designs some visual art based on what he read. The paintings are super cool, esoteric, smart. I love that kind of stuff.
music:
I recently listened to CharliXCX’s album Charli from 2019 (I found out about this record from perusing the music critic Anthony Fantano’s IG page. Finding albums like this is the equivalent of mining for gold. Had it not been for Fantano and reading the comment section of one of his posts, I would’ve totally dismissed this album as just some pop record.
Boy was I wrong.
The whole production is dynamic and colorful, palatable and enjoyable for people who love eclectic and music that is outside the norm. It’s very musical, and colors outside the lines of what we think of as “pop music”. Melodies are cohesive and unforced, like she mined it from some universal stream somewhere out THERE. I listened to it twice in a row.
physical activity:
I live in Crete. The hiking out here is outstanding! I went on a hike with some friends about a month ago. This is the google map link and below are a few pictures. It was incredible. Like something out of a Tolkien novel. The water was freezing cold, and we almost turned back because of it. But didn’t. Worth it.
reading:
Every morning after water and before turning on my phone and falling into the oblivion of the never-ending interverse, I *try* to read something short and meaningful to kickstart my day. The books change often. Currently my morning reads are: The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday, The Daily Laws by Robert Greene, and A Calendar of Wisdom by Leo Tolstoy. These were recommendations from the writer Ryan Holiday. I’ve found that doing this short reading sesh in the morning begins the day in a good way. I also downloaded the Kindle versions that way I can carry it with me and not have to lug around three books.
Lastly, I’ve made a linktree that links to all of the places I have writing online as well as a place to give some money to The Cannon Dispatch if you wish. If you’ve gotten any enjoyment or have learned something from anything on here, you can donate whatever amount you’d like. And I would thank you for your donation!
As always, thank you for reading my stuff. I appreciate the shares, appreciate the messages, and the love.
I get all giddy about writing as it allows me to connect ideas and connect with people. Give me a shout if you ever have the time.
Be cool.
Rock n roll.
